Four Riders Renew Contracts with Rebranded Israel-Premier Tech
George Bennett, Guillaume Boivin, Hugo Hofstetter, and Nick Schultz have renewed their contracts with the soon-to-be-rebranded Israel-Premier Tech team. The riders have committed to the team for varying periods: Bennett and Boivin for the 2026 season, Hofstetter through 2027, and Schultz until the end of 2028. This announcement comes amidst a backdrop of controversy, as the team plans to change its name in 2026 due to sponsors' concerns about the current name, which has been associated with Israel's war in Gaza, a conflict deemed a genocide by a UN commission of inquiry.
The riders expressed their excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to continue with the team. Boivin, reflecting on his 11th year with the team, stated, 'I’m very excited about the challenges ahead.' Hofstetter, who has been a protected rider, praised the team's trust in him, saying, 'I’m really happy to re-sign with them.' Bennett highlighted the team's supportive environment and ambition to become one of the world's best teams.
Schultz, who faced a challenging first half of the year due to injuries, expressed his appreciation for the team's confidence in extending his contract for three more years. He aims to continue his role as a key domestique and improve his performance with the team's support.
The team's legal claim of €30 million against Gee, who terminated his contract unilaterally, adds another layer of complexity to the situation. This move has sparked discussions about the team's future and the impact of external pressures on its operations.
